Cimarron: Bed and Breakfast on the Great Ocean Road

Sweeping Ocean and White Water Views

Every room in this unusual Bed & Breakfast looks out over the Great Otway National Park to the Great Southern Ocean with panoramic views to Point Roadknight, Arthur's Seat, the Cape Schank light, and the open seas.

Construction

Cimarron was built in the late 1970s of large, hand-hewn local timbers (Mountain Ash and Messmate) with wooden pegs and ship-lap joins. A latter day architectural folly! All guests are invited to relax in the large living area which features vaulted ceilings of Canadian Hemlock. Upstairs rooms are connected by balconies and an internal bridge. The walls of the house display the owner's unusual collection of indigenous art from around the world.

Garden

The grounds of Cimarron include five acres of native bush garden, bordering on the Great Otway National Park. No other buildings or man-made structures can be seen from any part of this peaceful landscape. Five species of wild parrots and cockatoos and many other birds, as well as kangaroos, wallabies and occasionally Koalas, may be seen in the grounds throughout the year.

Beach Access

It's a 3 minute drive to any of seven local beaches: swimming, surfing, wind-surfing, fishing, and snorkeling; 15 minute drive to Point Addis, one of the world's most beautiful beaches; 20 minute drive to Bell's Beach, Australia's premier surfing beach. Within a 25 minute walk from the house are several wide sandy beaches with rocky headlands, tidal pools, impressive rock platforms, cliff top walks, sandy coves, and a picturesque grotto and rock arch.

Nearby Walks

The famous surf coast walk passes directly by the front gate of Cimarron and leads to the wonderful Aireys Cliff Top Walk extending to the Split Point Lighthouse and the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage, which offers Devonshire Teas. Immediately behind Cimarron, Ted's Ridge Track is one of Victoria's finest wildflower walks featuring in spring an array of rare and wonderful miniature orchids. Dozens of local tracks provide a choice of day, half day, and hour long walks. Finally, within a thirty minute drive in the nearby Otways behind Lorne may be found seven or eight waterfalls.
